The Earth Laughs in Flowers...

The Earth Laughs In Flowers...
~ EE Cummings

For some reason I am drawn to purple flowers. Various shades of purple are all over my yard right now. Tonight I was out admiring them with my camera.

My Iris's are in full bloom, right now. They smell heavenly. My wheelbarrow in the background is planted with Jewel color Nasturtiums. I can't wait for them to grow and overflow.

The Iris's are a purple/blue. Completely different from the purple of the lilac below.

Lilacs are by far my favorite flower. The scent, the colors, the dainty little flowers. Throughout my yard, I have white, dark purple, lilac and variegated like the one above. I wish they would last longer. This years rain has taken most of my blooms away.

Columbine, I think. I did not plant these. They just appeared one summer and spread all over. I pull most of them because they escape the flower bed. These lovelies are right where I want them. They grow tall and lean with tons of blooms. The purple in them is so dark and rich, almost black at times. If you click on the photo below to enlarge it you can see it's paper-like dainty, beautiful texture.

I do believe the Earth laughs in flowers.... especially purple ones.

What is your favorite flower?
