Decorate with a Thermos?

These bright colored thermos' belong to Gretta. She has a collection of about 10. All brightly painted from the 50's to 70's. Every fall she does a display of them on her mantel to warm up the chilly weather and decor.

I have seen them used as vases and a wonderful center piece. I would have never thought of it. But it really is a fun, creative and Earth friendly way of decorating, isn't it?

I just posted this and I got an Etsy Shop email and look what I spotted? A lamp made out of a thermos! Now I have seen everything :)

Happy Earth Day, my friends!

  2. My parents had a thermos like the green and white one, I had totally forgot about that until I saw this one....now I wonder what ever happened to that? Probably broken and tossed out! Love all of these, they are really nice, and great idea about using them as a vase! Have a great VTT!

  5. I love this idea! I have a fabulous old plaid Thermos that would make a gorgeous vase. I never thought of that!

Thank you for visiting me at the Examiner! I'll be back to visit, we have similar style I think. :)

  6. I love those old thermoses, and even have a few myself! I especially like that turquoise and white one. They remind me of taking road trips across the country with my parents, and my Dad chugging coffee the whole way!
    Happy VTT!

  7. What wonderful ideas for using thermoses. I have a few and I always thought they were too rusty but using them for flowers is an excellent idea. The lamp idea is cool too.

  10. My husband lost his mom Friday and we just got back into town from the funeral. We had a video at the service and there was a photo of my in-laws at Gore Pass sitting at a picnic table with their thermos of coffee! They always enjoyed their coffee! You added more fun memories for me here. I remember my folks got a free thermos at Dunkin Donuts years ago. I think that thing lasted forever! Anne
