Thank you for coming back to my 31 Days of Paint Series. If you would like to see it from the entire series just click HERE.
Back in 1992, I painted dresser baby girl pink. It was my first experience with spray paint. {I’ve been addicted every since.} This dresser once belonged to my EX husband. It was blue and his mother had painted it that color back in the 60s. Prior to that it was gold. I painted it for my baby girl, Samantha.
This is what it looked like after we hit it heavily with a palm sander. We decided to paint it for Samantha’s baby boy Cylas to keep the family tradition of painting it for your first baby going. Sam used this pink dresser in her room for 19 years and it was time to pass it on.
If you look closely you will see all 3 shades of paint. Even the gold showed up. It was cool to see all the layers and if it wasn’t going to my little grandson, I would have left it just like this. I like the layers and the history.
Samantha chose this bright green from Krylon. It is a satin finish spray paint and it took 1 1/2 cans to get the desired look. We didn’t paint the back as it has a little of each paint color on it: gold, blue and pink. We added a splash of green to add to the history. We painted this outside for ventilation on a warm sunny day. It took about 4 hours with sanding and drying time between coats.
We added bright white drawer pulls for most of the dresser and for the top 2, some cute little owls to add to the animal theme of his room.
There’s also a secret in the bottom drawer, when Samantha’s dad was little, he wrote his name in the drawer with crayon so one day when Sam was about 8, I let her add her name to it too. I am sure someday, little Mr. Cylas will add his name there too.
He’ll have to get a little bigger to do it though. :)
We hope Cylas will pass this down to his child someday. I am sure it will need another coat of paint by then and you know, I’d be happy to oblige. Tomorrow I will show you the changing table we painted for him.
Lovely shade of green, and a great story.
