1919 Steamer Trunk with a history

My husband and I are kindred spirits, do you know why? The other day he comes home from a friends house and says, I bought you something. BIG. {I am thinking diamond? LOL} He goes out to the truck and lugs in this HUGE ugly thing:

I think, where the heck am I going to put that? It is 4 feet tall and I could literally fit inside of it. "Uhhh... Thanks?" I say. "Open it," He says. So I do and think; well this is cool. All these drawers, original hangers.

"Now open that shoe drawer, there," He says. So I do and inside I find this.

I read it as tears stream down my face. He says, "That's why I bought it."
{I love that man!}

It begins:

"Hi!
     I am a STEAMER TRUNK. I would like to tell you my story. I can only remember back to 1919. Before that everything is hazy, the factory, the long trip to the store, it is all lost to me now. What I can tell you is the adventures I have had since Kosei bought me in 1919.

     Kosei immigrated to the United States in 1910, he worked as a field worker for nine years saving money so he could go back to Japan to marry the girl his parents arranged for him. His bride was fifteen years younger than Kosei....."

Click the photos above to enlarge and read the entire story. It's 3 short pages and well worth your time.
I am adding to it's history by sharing it with you.
Enjoy!

  3. What an incredible story. Not sure what you will do with the trunk, but after that history behind it, you will find a use for it.

  4. Do you know who wrote the wonderful story of the trunk? It's amazing! I hope you and your family will keep the trunk forever! It's a treasure! A friend of mine found a similar trunk several years ago, but it didn't come with a story.
