I love vintage kitchen utensils. I use old spoons, forks and knives in my decorating all the time. Here I used them as a centerpiece at Easter.
I think my favorite use of vintage kitchen utensils has been my Spoon Curtain Tie-Backs in my dining room.
I had my hubby, Joe, drill a hole in each spoon handle and screw it to the wall and bend the spoon back to create the tie-back. Pretty simple, huh?
I love the patina.
I love how they add a little sparkle too.
How have you repurposed ordinary items?

Great idea!! I love it!!
ReplyDeleteYes, you better get going on your Valentine decor. It's coming up quick.
Have a great weekend,

Love that centerpiece. I have all of my utensils in old jars on the counter instead of in a drawer. The spoons make great tie-backs too- I'm sure they're quite the conversation piece for guests!
ReplyDeleteSuch a cute idea for using flatware...I will keep it on my DIY list. I’m having a GIVEAWAY…would love to have you come by and enter to win a gift card and some goodies!

Thanks for stopping by my blog and leaving some "love." Love the utensils in jars, very cute.
ReplyDeleteI noticed my jar of silver plated utensils was gone from my display in the kitchen the other day so I asked the kids-apparently Little Miss E thought it would look better on the mantle in the den (I guess being 4 yrs, she figured she better make use of her climbing and decorating skills:)- and you can tell how often I go in the den! :)
ReplyDeleteYou did a great job- here's some love!
If you get this, would you mind to share what type of drill bit your husband used. I make all kinds of things out of silverware and I always break the drill bit! Just thought he might have a special trick!
ReplyDeleteThank you for posting this project idea! This ended up being a great alternative to either sewing tie backs or buying tassles. They look very cute with the curtains they are hanging with!
ReplyDeleteEmbellish -- If you happen to get this, I two tips that I think worked for me. First, use a drill bit specifically meant to be used on metal. Second, dip the tip of your drill bit in oil (I used olive oil) before you start to drill your holes in the spoons. This will keep your bit cooler and lubricate when you are drilling the holes. I don't have a fancy drill or expensive bits and I was able to drill the holes in 4 spoons in well under 5 minutes.
Thank you for the tip! We did use a metal bit and a little oil. Probably not Olive Oil but that is so resourseful! Something I would do!
DeleteI LOVE this! I need to come up with a pretty/creative ribbon or cord to tie my front window curtains but it would also be nice to have a tie back for days when I want the entire window opened. Thank you!
