31 Days of Paint #10 Painting A Rug?

Thank you for coming back to my 31 Days of Paint Series. If you would like to see it from the beginning just click HERE.

Have your ever attempted to paint a rug? It is a good solution to any decorating dilemma, paint the design and color you want to fit your space. I personally have never tried this. But have been doing some research and have found a lot of inspiration.

Lowe’s Creative Ideas had this painted rug with instructions and free stencil pattern that you can enlarge. They suggested using a utility mat and spray paint.

I might try it just to see the texture of the paint but I suspect that it would be rough underfoot. I would suggest using a textile medium and acrylic paint. I have used this on pillows and curtains and it comes out flexible and smooth.

My super creative friend Linda from My Crafty Home Life hosted a Paint A Rug party with 12 other bloggers. A DIY challenge to paint a rug over 3 weeks.

Linda took this rug and created a Greek Key pattern with painters tape and then painted it using a textile medium and flat black latex paint.

Mind boggling! I would have had to use a stencil, I could not even begin to figure this out.

Didn’t it turn out great? I love the contrast and it makes her little sitting area is so inviting. Linda is doing a 31 Day Series on Nantucket Style, be sure and check it out HERE.

All 13 participants in the Paint A Rug Party used different patterns and styles to paint one-of-a-kind original rugs. Their trials and tribulations through this project are carried out in that true to life “keeping it real” DIY style that I love.

Before you begin painting a rug, I suggest you look at the styles and methods of the 13 participants from the Paint A Rug Party listed & linked below. I think I will have to give it a shot. Would you?
