I like imperfectly painted pieces. Furniture that has been distressed, old chipping paint and gray weathered wood. I decided to paint a few things for Halloween. I started with these inexpensive wooden candle sticks from Michael’s.
I painted 2 candle sticks a base coat of orange and 2 a base coat of black acrylic craft paint. Once that dried I painted a coat of Mod Podge’s crackle medium over the dried base coat.
I love this stuff!
When that dried, I added the opposite color paint for a top coat: black over orange, orange over black. I did a sloppy light coat for my top coat of paint because I wanted it to look really distressed. The crackle appears instantly.
After they were completely dry, I sanded the edges just a little. Tied on a little ribbon and topped with a tiny pumpkin.
They were fun and easy to paint and will be part of my Halloween décor for years to come.
Love the rustic fun of it. Fast is the best way to paint, if you can.
ReplyDeleteSo cute! I haven't tried the Mod Podge Crackle yet, but you're tempting me. I love Halloween decorations more than any other holiday decorations, but they're so expensive in the stores.
