Thank you for coming back to my 31 Days of Paint Series. If you want to see it from the beginning, just click HERE.
This is one of those power of paint type of posts. I got this ugly lamp from a thrift store for $2. I had them test it to make sure it worked. Every thing was fine with it except the lack of lamp shade and really, really ugly color.
The shape of this lamp was interesting to me. When I am looking for a piece to paint, the shape and texture are really what I pay attention to.
I bought it mainly because I liked the detail of the medallion and the base. They are brass but I knew they would look beautiful painted white.
To prep for paint, I washed it with hot soapy water. When dry, I taped off the cord so I didn’t get paint on it. I wanted to test the “no sanding” theory about chalk paint. I painted it with homemade chalk paint (see recipe HERE) and a foam brush. It took 2 coats in some areas but most of it was covered in just one coat of paint. I painted right over the metal base and medallion.
The picture doesn’t do it justice, the base and medallion turned out great. I did sand it down in some areas to make it look well loved.
I placed her in my living room on an old sewing table, next to my favorite lounging spot. Now that I am looking at this photo, I think I need to paint that sewing table. it is so dinged up and some of the veneer is missing. Paint would help. What do you think?
Happy Painting!
You gotta love paint :). That fan in your picture is so cute. The blades look blue, how fun.
