One Room Challenge Week 5 Accessories

Welcome back to The One Room Challenge! I've been enjoying this challenge so much that I want to take the time to send a heartfelt Thank You! To my friend, Linda of My Crafty Home Life. Linda is responsible for coming up with this idea of transforming 1 room in our house in just 6 weeks. She brought all 15 of us together and has encouraged us all along the way.  There are some seriously talented ladies participating in this challenge, I hope you will take the time to visit their blogs and check out their fantastic rooms. There is a list of links to their blogs at the bottom of this post.

Tangerine Tom Boy Room

This week for Sophie's bedroom, I concentrated on touch up paint and loaded in furniture. I have also been creating and repurposing some accessories and working on the barn style door.

You might remember my repurposed lamp (see post here). It was originally dark wood stain. (That orange "crystal" was original from the 70s.) I took it apart, spray painted it and added the cute little girly lampshade, which Sophie hated. She said, (and I quote.) "I do not like flowers." So we switched the lamp shade for this zebra one. "Ya, that's what I'm talking about," Sophie's reaction to it. I guess I did good on my $4.96 Walmart purchase.

This summer in my spray painting furniture frenzy (read about it here), I painted this little side table that was also an ugly dark wood stained from the 70s. Sophie painted the wooden knob tangerine with craft paint and I added a little Minwax to it so it would hold up. It's kind of a girly table with it's scallops but I'm not tell her. :)

For art, above the bed I hung this collage of white wooden circles. They came in a package with "Command" stickies on the back, so I can remove them easily. I found them at my local drug store for $2.99. With that bright stripe on the wall, I'm keeping art at a minimum.

For Sophie to display her own art work, I found these HUGE clothes pins at Michael's for $3 each. They were all ready this crazy color, all I did was add some picture hanging hardware on the back. I measured, pre-drilled the holes and attached the hangers.

We will have pops of Tangerine everywhere. I am so glad I went with the Aqua walls to tone all of this down.

Since my friend, Linda hates surprises, I thought I'd let you in on the secret of what I used for my "barn door" for Sophie's bedroom. Have you seen this hardware before? It's only $14.98 at Home Depot.

Hint: look at your closet... It's sliding closet door track. We have incredibly low ceilings on our second floor only 81 inches high. So this hardware plus a standard 36 x 80 hallow core door (painted and fussed with, of course) will make up her barn style door. Come back next week for the big reveal. I can't wait to show you the rest of the room.

  2. HaHaHa..You didn't need to tell everyone...just DM me! This is cool. You and I hung tough for 31 days, and I had a great time channeling you when I spray painted (back in October). I remember that lamp, it is fantastic. Sophie is right, that shade makes it. I can't wait to see the door.

  5. These colors are amazing together! And while it's not the girliest, it doesn't come off as hugely tomboy either. I think it strikes a perfect balance actually. My daughter would adore this room and so do I!
