Painted Pantry Door 2014 Color of the Year Sherwin-Williams Exclusive Plum

My pantry door is pretty uninteresting. It's tucked back in a corner of my dining room behind my really large china hutch. It's so nondescript, that it goes unnoticed by most. So when Sherwin-Williams asked me if I would like to try a sample of the 2014 Color of the Year Exclusive Plum, I knew exactly what I wanted to do with it. I picked up my quart of Sherwin-Williams ProClassic in semi-gloss – it is a high-performance coating (will withstand toughest wear and tear) made for doors and trim. The sheen is perfect. Not too shiny and easily washable.

This was a 30 Minute Paint Project from start to finish. I wiped down the door to eliminate dust and dirt. And painted directly over the existing white paint. No primer necessary. Sherwin-Williams ProClassic paint has great coverage. One coat and a few touch-ups was all it took to cover the door completely.

I love the crisp clean look of fresh paint. This one is a real stand out. (Please ignore the reflection on the door from the water cooler.) I added a new curtain and am seriously considering frosting the freshly cleaned glass to hide the clutter behind it. I need to purchase a new door knob as the old one has seen better days and lots of coats of paint.  It's funny how one project can lead to 3 others, isn't it?

2013 Paint Colors

It’s here!

The color of the year is…. (drum roll, please)…

You know what? I really, really like it too!  Aloe is one of 40 colors that make up the 2013 color forecast. Selected by Sherwin-Williams color experts, the shades are grouped into four palettes: Midnight Mystery, Honed Vitality, Vintage Moxie and High-Voltage.

          


So out of these 4 color palettes, which one do you like best? I think “Honed Vitality” is more in line with what I have in my house. I am all about the neutral calm colors. (Is that boring or on trend? I often wonder…) I checked out the colors individually on Sherwin-Williams’ Pinterest Board and picked one color from each palette that is my favorite.

Aloe, of course! I love this minty blue green.

Hello Happiness! Oh, yes! Gladiola be showing up in my house this year!

Another blue… What can I say? I really like blue.

Rare Gray (SW 6875)

 

My go-to colors: gray or white.

 

 

The one I am most curious about is this “Plum Brown”.

I want to see it. The swatch does not do it justice, I am sure. Is it more Plum or Brown? I am seeing Plum and I like it. I think this calls for a trip to my local Sherwin-Williams for a sample. It just screams “possibilities” to me.

31 Days of Paint #31 Series Recap

31 Days of Paint 2012 has been a testimonial, of sorts, to the power of paint. I have used paint to transform so many things. In this series, I have shown examples of my personal paint projects and projects that other DIYers have tackled. I hope that I have conveyed to you how simple and effective painting something... anything really, can be. From a simple "paint dipped spoon" to painting Hollywood's Iconic Sign.

I have touched on spray paint, chalk paints, paint stripper, glazing, paint mediums and stencils. I have shown kitchen projects to nursery projects; painting walls, rugs, furniture, art and home accessories and I still feel that there is so much more to share.

I will continue this topic until you tell me you are sick of it, OK? I will still blog about home decor, crafts and art and life... but paint will always be on the top of my list of topics.

Arrow Sign turns chalkboard tutorial

I got his little arrow at Hobby Lobby for $15 (it was 50% off the original price). I thought it looked a little plain. I considered buying letters and making a sign out of it but decided that making it a chalkboard would make it more functional. I know we are all "OVER" chalkboard paint but there are times when a little chalkboard is a good thing. This was one of those times...

I sanded the inside of it to help the paint stick.  In painting, this is called "giving it tooth"  ~ fun fact?

I taped the edges.

Just painted it with a brush. I prefer using a roller for chalk board paint because the brush strokes show but in this case I didn't have a roller that small.

Here's how she turned out. After the paint dried for 24 hours, I took chalk and primed the chalkboard by rolling it over the entire surface then wiping it clean. This way when you write something, it can be erased completely.

Here's how it looks today. I am so glad I went with the chalk board paint. Since this is in my bathroom, I envision changing the word Beach to WASH YOUR HANDS or Please Keep This Area Clean... Or any of the 101 Mommy phrases I use on a daily basis.
