I’ve been wanting to make a star burst mirror for quite some time. This is what I came up with.
Knife Burst Mirror
I started with this precut wooden circle plaque from Michael’s craft store and a can of Krylon Metallic Silver paint.
I really love this stuff! It’s so sparkly!
I wanted to use 2 metals for this piece because my dining room curtains have both silver and gold in them. So I taped off the edge of the plaque and used Rub 'n Buff on the edge.
Rub ‘n Buff is really easy to apply and covers very well. Literally took 5 minutes to apply and dry. I got a little on the center of the plaque but the mirror covered it.
After applying the gold, I laid out my knifes. (I had it all hap-hazard until Joe came along and helped me; Mr. Measuring tape always saves the day.) These are just some old butter knives I had. I tried using E6000 glue on them but it did not work. The drying time was way too long for me. I ended up putting a gallon of house paint on top of it to overnight to dry and it still didn’t hold well. So I started over with my trusty hot glue gun. Which dries fast and holds really well.
Here you can see the gold and silver, the sheen is pretty extraordinary. I attached my $2.99 mirror from Michael’s with hot glue as well.
I think she looks pretty good with multiple metallic colors in my dining room curtains, don’t you?
Happy Painting!
